Dow losses gather steam as financials weigh on blue-chip gauge in late-morning action

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was seeing losses pick up in late-morning trade Tuesday, with the financials producing the stiffest headwind for blue chips. Shares of JPMorgan Chase & Co. , Travelers Cos. Inc. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. were combining to exact a roughly 30-point toll on the price-weighted Dow . Most recently, the Dow was down about 50 points, or 0.2%, at 24,757, the S&P 500 index was off 2.80 points, or 0.1%, at 2,744, with the banking sector, as measured by the exchange-traded Financial Select Sector SPDR ETF , down 0.8%. The Nasdaq Composite Index , however, was bucking the trend, trading slightly higher at 7,618, briefly touching an intraday record at 7,644.48.
