Dow flirts with 25,000, sets sights on longest win streak in 8 months at the open

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded higher early Monday, putting the blue-chip gauge on pace for its eighth straight advance–a feat that would market is longest such stretch since Sept. 20, according to FactSet data. The Dow was up 108 points, or 0.5% at 24,939, flirting with retaking a psychological level above 25,000. The S&P 500 index rose 10 points, or 0.4%, at 2,738, while the Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 0.4% at 7,434. In corporate news, shares of Tesla Inc. rose 0.8%. Matthew Schwall, a senior executive who is the company’s main technical contact with U.S. safety regulators, has reportedly left for rival Waymo LLC. Wall Street attributed the slightly more upbeat moves on the day to easing trade tensions between China and the U.S., with President Donald Trump indicating that he was working with Chinese President Xi Jinping to keep ZTE Corp. .
