U.S. stocks closed higher on Thursday, with major indexes shaking off an early decline as technology and financial stocks led a broad move higher. The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed 0.4% higher, while the S&P 500 finished 0.6% up. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index registered the biggest gains out of the three majors, ending 0.8% higher. Technology stocks, the biggest sector in the U.S. by market capitalization, were among the biggest gainers of the day, up 1.1%. Among the most notable movers was Verizon , which rose 3.1%, and IBM Co. , up 1.9%. In other individual stocks, BJ’s Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. rallied 29.4% on its first public trading day after a seven-year hiatus.
