President Donald Trump told The Sun newspaper that a so-called “soft” Brexit would kill the chances for a trade deal between the U.K. and the U.S. after the country leaves the European Union. Tweets from The Sun’s political reporter quote the president as saying such a move would make it more difficult for the U.S. “If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the UK, so it will probably kill the deal,” he said. Several ministers, notably Boris Johnson, have quit the U.K. cabinet over Prime Minister Theresa May’s plan released last week. Trump also reportedly said May ignored his advice on how to negotiate Brexit. Trump is in the U.K. visiting May as part of his European tour.
