Although the Big 3 market indexes all closed lower, market breadth was mixed, with a slightly positive reading on the NYSE and a negative reading on the Nasdaq exchange. On the Big Board, the number of advancing stocks outnumbered decliners 1,503 to 1,387, according to FactSet, while volume in advancing issues accounted for 50.1% of total volume. On the Nasdaq, however, decliners topped advancers 1,601 to 1,289, while declining volume was 64.5% of total volume. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 9.29 points, or less than 0.1%, but 16 of 30 components closed with gains. All of the Dow’s Nasdaq-listed components–Apple Inc. , Microsoft Corp. , Cisco Systems Inc. and Intel Corp. –were among the losers. The S&P 500 fell 0.3% and the Nasdaq Composite shed 0.9%.
