Alliance Data says Facebook’s new ‘data brokers’ policy won’t materially affect Epsilon

Alliance Data Systems Corp. said Facebook Inc.’s decision to wind down its relationships with “data brokers” is not expected to have any material impact on its Epsilon data management business. “Neither Epsilon nor any of its affiliates has any material relationship with any social media platform–Epsilon works primarily through non-social media channels, which enhances its ability to measure marketing [return on investment],” the company said in a statement. Alliance Data’s stock fell as much as 7.3% in intraday trading to the lowest level seen since November 2016, before bouncing to close down 4.1%. Meanwhile, shares of data-management company Acxiom Corp. plunged as much as 34% intraday before paring losses to close down 19%. Alliance Data’s stock has lost 13% over the past 12 months, while the S&P 500 has gained 12%.
